How To Use A Kong!

How to reduce dog behavior problems using a KONG!

If your dog is having behavior problems, a KONG may be the solution you are looking for. A KONG is a rubber toy that can be filled with treats or food, and it provides hours of entertainment for dogs. Kongs can help reduce boredom, separation anxiety, and destructive behavior. In this blog post, we will discuss how to use a KONG to reduce dog behavior problems.

The first step is to choose the right size KONG for your dog.

The KONG website has a sizing chart that can help you select the appropriate size for your dog. Click Here!

I personally would recommend you buy 4 so that you can have a few filled and ready for use.

Once you have the right size KONG, it's time to start filling it with treats or food. You can use your dog's favorite treats or try something new. Kongs can be filled with different types of food, such as peanut butter, cheese, or a mix kibble and wet food. Be sure to put the KONG in the freezer for a few hours before giving it to your dog. This will help keep your dog entertained for longer as it will be a little more difficult to get the stuffing out.

The number 1 benefit of using a KONG is teaching your dog to enjoy being alone.

This helps with:

  • Boredom

  • Inappropriate Chewing

  • Counter Surfing

  • Going Through The Trash

  • Barking

If you are using the KONG to reduce separation anxiety, start by leaving your dog alone for short periods of time while he is occupied with the KONG. Gradually increase the amount of time you are away from your dog until he is comfortable being left alone for longer periods of time.

If you are using the KONG to reduce destructive behavior, give your dog the KONG when he is showing signs of boredom or destructive behavior. For example, if your dog is chewing on furniture or your belongings, give him the KONG to chew on instead.

The key to using a KONG successfully is to be consistent. If you only give your dog the KONG when he is behaving badly, he will associate the KONG with bad behavior. However, if you give your dog the KONG regularly, he will learn that it is a toy for good behavior and will be more likely to use it in positive ways. Try giving your dog the KONG several times a day, such as before you leave for work, during your lunch break, and before bedtime.

If you are having trouble getting your dog interested in the KONG, try adding some of his favorite treats or food to the KONG. You can also try freezing the KONG overnight so that it is more challenging for your dog to get the treats out.

KONGS are a great way to reduce dog behavior problems. By providing your dog with a KONG, you can help him stay entertained and occupied, reduce his anxiety, and prevent destructive behavior.
